After a year of research and deliberation, the MNLFI group has taken its findings on the road to engage the Minnesota library community in a dialogue about future-related challenges.]]></description>

To engage the library community in this conversation, a Futures Group of twenty-four participants from all types of libraries across the state were selected by the MNLFI Steering Committee through an open selective application process. After a year of research and deliberation, the MNLFI group has taken its findings on the road to engage the Minnesota library community in a dialogue about future-related challenges. They now bring their findings to Northern Illinois.This dialogue is your opportunity to shape the future.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The recent focus at the beginning of 2012 by the Illinois State Senate and the release of the Illinois Library Association’s “Statement on Serving the Homeless” have caused library staff to refocus their efforts on how to better serve the growing homeless population of their communities. This segment of the population has grown due to the worst economic situation since the 1930s.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Our program consists of two parts. First, Joanne M. Budler, State Librarian of Kansas, will talk about the challenges and opportunities we face in the eBook environment (the new wild, wild west!!). Jo will relate to us the Kansas eBook experience, including her dealings with OverDrive and 3M Cloud, and bring us up to date on the Kansas State Library’s plans for eBooks. After Jo’s presentation, Stephen Bero, Director of the Warren-Newport Public Library, will facilitate a panel to initiate a discussion on econtent in public libraries. On the panel will be Jo; Deirdre (Dee) Brennan, Executive Director of the Oak Park Public Library; Frank Novak, Executive Director of the Rockford Public Library; and, via Skype, Jamie LaRue, Director of the Douglas County Libraries (CO).</p>
<p>The newly expanded Warren-Newport Public Library will be featured in the second part of the program. Don McKay, lead architect from Nagle Hartray Architecture, and Steve Bero will give an overview of the design and realization of this renovated library building. The program will close with a complete tour of the facility led by Steve and his staff.</p>
